How many times a day do you actually get to sit down and just relax? Did you remember the days of having a hobby? Getting in a good workout? Eating a meal that was hot… with other people… AND actually sitting down? It might have been a while. As parents, we tend to have so much to to, that the things we need to do to take care of ourselves kind of get lost by the wastes side.
I know many parents think they can not find those times for themselves. It is hard. But it isn’t impossible. It just takes a little planning.
Get your exercise: I know that I have trouble squeezing in time for a workout. I am not about to get up early to workout. I’m not that dedicated. On the other hand, I know that I need to get moving more and stay healthy. If you are like me, try yoga. I like to do the morning salutations. It takes about 15 minutes; it gets the blood flowing; it loosens the muscles; and it sets a good example. If you have trouble exercising with the kids under feet, get them involved. Most kids love to do random stretches and this is a fun way to send time together. It can end in a houseful of giggles.
Take Snacks: You never know when the hunger will hit. Having snacks with you will help you stay going strong and have the energy to get all of the errands done. You know, avoid the desire to have your own temper tantrum in the middle of aisle 6 at Walmart. I like to carry fresh fruit, but when I forget that, I like to have trail mix in my bag. I tend to make my own trail mix of sunflower seeds, nuts, and bits of chocolate. I recently found chocolate covered coconut. Do I need to say more?
Combine tasks: I try to head out all at once to get everything done. It saves me time. It makes it faster because I do less driving. And I get everything at one store whenever I can. I use Walmart to get just about everything because, well, it is all there. If I can get everything I need in one trip, that means, I have to drag the kids to the car less often.
Eat Breakfast: You already know it is the most important meal of the day. We tell our kids that all the time, usually as we are
guzzling sipping coffee. Breakfast doesn’t have to be a big deal. It doesn’t have to be a full course meal. Keep hard boiled eggs ready to eat in the fridge. Then in the morning, grab 2 eggs, a glass of V8® Veggie Blend: Berry Bliss and you are ready for the day. V8 has 2 new flavors out, the Berry Bliss and V8® Veggie Blends: Caribbean Greens.
