My family loves games and I love word games. If you have been a long time reader, or heck read even a few posts, I love things that I can incorporate learning into. Kerflip is a new word game that I can play with my kids, all have fun, and I can reinforce learning with my kids. For ages 8 and up, Kerflip is for 2-4 players.
The concept of Kerflip reminds me almost like Scrabble and Boggle mixed together but way better. You start the game where each player picks 4 tiles out of the bag. When everyone has their tiles, they all get dropped onto the board. All players try to make a word with the tiles available. When the first player has a word, they call it out and flips their timer over. The other players keep trying to figure out a word. They have until the timer ends. When the next person has their word, they call it out, and flip their timer. This goes on until everyone has their word or the time runs out. Scoring is done a bit different too. The first person who called a word add their tiles first. Then flips them to red. Then he second person scores their word. The white tiles are worth 10 points and the red tiles and worth 5 points. The second person flips their tiles and now the third. So the 3rd or 4th person can have the largest word, but if the tiles were all red, then they will score less than the others. It pays to be fast.
I think my favorite feature is the way it is constructed. My kids lose more pieces to games than anything else. The design of the game makes it easy to keep the pieces together and easy to put away. And the game is sturdy. Before receiving Kerflip, I saw the video and had no idea how strong the play area would be made. I thought the piece would flimsy. But it is very strong and very well constructed.
Kerflip is available online and sells for $24.99. But you have a chance to win one now. Open to US residents, contest ends 6/19 12:01 am
