Christmas is almost here, and I have been seeing a lot of people talking about what they are planning for the New Year. Losing weight, getting more organized, eating healthier, whatever the case may be. For me, I have spent the last few weeks, tearing my house apart. I am getting rid of all of the junk we have accumulated over the past 10 years. I need to get the house ready for my big goal of 2014. Revamping the house.
My plan is to do a lot of remodeling this coming year. First up is the kitchen. It needs a paint job desperately. The cabinets are falling apart. And the floor tiles are a mess. They are coming loose, and the nails are starting to pop through. I have spent hours searching for beautiful tiles on Mainland Tiles because I want the floor to have an elegant look that can withstand all of the traffic in the room. I also need to last since this will be a huge part of reno budget.
Since I am not much of a designer or decorator I have been hooked on DIY shows and sites. I think my new favorite site for looking at designs is Better Homes and Gardens. They have some of the most beautiful set ups and kitchen ideas. I take a little from this one and a little from that one. And then something from this one too. Jimmy laughs at me because I am started to collect images. Then I circle the things I like about or things that I want to include. Then there are also some that are just dream kitchens because I like to dream.
I am choosing tile because I need to be easy to clean but durable. Right now we have this peel and stick stuff that the previous owner put down. But as the kids are playing on it, getting things filthy with paint and craft supplies, I scrub it and it is honesty to the point that the design is getting scrubbed off. And like I mentioned before, the nails in the floor are popping up, so through the laminate, there are nail head marks. I just do not want to deal with that again in a few years. I want to do it right, the first time I do it. I want beautiful tile that will last until after the youngest child has left for college.
There are days that I wonder how on Earth I will manage all of the renovations. Then there are other days, when I am ready to get started right away. Have you done any major renovations at your house? Did you do it yourself or did you hire someone? Have any tips for me?
