Last month, I had the chance to do a lot of firsts. My oldest son turned 16. I flew in a plane for the first time. I traveled to Texas. And I attended my first conference. But all of it was amazing. Attending Blissdom was such an amazing experience. I had the chance to meet some amazing people, learn a ton, and one of favorite parts was being able to stay in the Gaylord Texan Resort that is just outside of Dallas in Grapevine, Texas.
I have stayed in some beautiful hotels but this hotel honestly, is one of the largest, most beautiful places I have stayed. Being part of the Marriott franchise, I am not surprised by the hotel. The staff was so friendly and very accommodating. And I loved that there was a wide variety of cultures. Each staff member had a name tag, that also featured where they were from. While I was there I met someone from Hungary, Austria, and Mexico, among people from several different states. The very large hotel sits far back from the highway, and is surrounded by lakes, which I could see beautifully from the balcony. There is a safe right inside the room, a large closet, and lots of drawer space. The bathroom and shower are separate from the sinks and counter area, making it a bit easier for everyone to get ready at the same time. The room was cleaned, and restocked every day, including coffee to make in the mini coffee maker and 2 complimentary water bottles in the mini fridge. When I left my room, to head to the convention part of the hotel, I felt like I was taking a walk in the park or a small downtown type area. After heading down in the elevators, which were quick and I never had to wait for, I would walk out into a large open atrium ,that gives it that feel of a walk through the park..
There are streams and a lovely landscaped walk way. There were lots of living plants, props, like old country houses, trees, and a fenced in area with a bull to help pull the scene all together.
Also in the atrium, there are several restaurants and bars. You can find a bistro, a nice Italian restaurant, a coffee-house and a sports bar, Texas Station, which has a tv that is bigger than my living room, measuring 700 square feet.
The resort features an indoor pool, and an outdoor pool, a vineyard, and a fitness center. On the premises there is a barber/beauty shop, spa, shoe shine service, game room, newsstand, gift shops, and laundry. Local restaurants are able to deliver or you can order room service, available 24 hours a day, if you do not want to dine in the restaurants. There is a nightclub on site, just a short walk past the parking garage, or with the shuttle that is available. The nightclub offers bands and DJs, with a dance floor, seating areas and an outdoor patio. If you are looking for thing to do, besides what the resort itself offers, there is an indoor water park, across the street, and an outdoor water park on the hotel property. You may be more interested in catching the shuttle for a short five minute ride to the huge outlet mall, located nearby.
I loved that I was never too cold or too hot anywhere in the hotel. Everything about the resort was welcoming and comforting. If you are planning a trip to the Dallas/Grapevine area, I would highly recommend checking into the Gaylord Texan resort for your stay.
