Did you know that the Beloved American Author, Mercer Mayer, had a Birthday on December 30?
Mercer Mayer has published over 300 books in his career, so far. He has used a wide range of illustrative styles, but he is most well-known for his series of book Little Critters and Little Monster. He drew from his own childhood experiences and parents and children simply love his creations because of it.
“Most of my books are about things that happened to me when I was a little kid,” says Mercer. “Now that I’m a big kid, I write about things that happen now, especially with my own children and grandchildren. They always remind me of what it is like to be little.”
And now, to celebrate his birthday, Mercer Mayer and Silver Dolphin Books would like to include you in the celebration of his birthday. Silver Dolphin Books has reasons to celebrate too! This January, Silver Dolphin Books will be unveiling their very first app about Little Critter—Mercer Mayer’s Little Critter: The Trip.
If you love Mercer Mayer’s Little Critter books—you are going to love this new Little Critter app! The Trip app invites kids to learn while playing along with Little Critters and other characters from the books by Mercer Mayer. The goal of the app is to help kids reinforce the ability to resolve every day family based situations, like the kind featured in his books. With a variety of fun games and learning activities, the kids run through pre-school and early elementary concepts, like numbers, shapes, colors, patterns, letters, simple words and map reading.
The app has kids take an action packed car trip with Little Critter, Little Sister, Mom and Dad. While traveling, everything imaginable can happen. Literally, from A-Z can happen in this app. “B is for bad” when the “T is for tire” goes flat! And “L is for lost”when where did the “R is for road” go? Little Critters’ trip is full of humorous ups and downs like the actual road they’re following! It’s up to you and Little Critter to help find the way, fix the car when it breaks down, and play lots of fun “G is for games” with Little Sister to pass the time!

ahhh! I just loved these books when I was a kid, I forgot about them until I saw this article. I would love for my 5 yr old to grow up with these too.
I have a few of the Little Critter books and my children love them. One of our favorites is I Just Forgot. I have had it since I was a child.
