Steripen- Drinking Water Protection with a Handheld Water purifier

If there was any question of how important it is to be prepared for an emergency, this past October was an eye opener of just how easy and quickly things can happen. When Sandy hit recently, I was lucky and we only lost power for a few days and there was no major damage to where I live. But after seeing what so many went through, it was an eye opener. Emergencies happen when you aren’t expecting them, and as a mom I want to be prepared. I need to be ale to take care of my family.

When I was preparing for the storm, I bought about 8 gallons of water for my family and the people who were staying with us. I knew wit was a bit much, but there was no telling if the township lost power if we would have water and for how long it would be out. All I could think was that my kids would need something and I couldn’t give it to them.

All you have to do is look at all the other disaster that have happened: Thailand, New Orleans, Japan, Haiti, and countless others, to see that there are times that fresh clean water is not available.

Besides for these natural emergencies, these days, people are planning for all kind of apocalypse scenerios. It doesn’t matter if you just want to be prepared for the disaster we know or those that we don’t, you need a way to have the water you and your family need. Hw can you do this without having gallons upon gallons of water on hand? Or worse still, if your have to leave your home and need portable water? SteriPEN is the answer.

SteriPEN is a portable, handheld water purification device. Using the same technology as the cities to purify the municipal water supply, the SteriPEN destroys more than 99.9% of viruses, bacteria and Protozoa using UV light. It offers complete protection from outdoor microbes and household germs like E. Coli and Salmonella, Influenza, Staph and Strep, and travel pathogens that can cause diarrhea, Dysentery, Hepatitis, and Polio, because the last thing you need to do is get sick when you are in an emergency. It also purifies against natural disaster and bio-terror risks that can cause Cholera and other waterborne illnesses.

It is you to use, just press one button and it says an auto timer for fast purification. The auto timer sets it to work for the exact time that is needed to make sure the water is safe. Press the button once for 1L, press it twice for a half liter, you don’t even have to remember that because it is written right around the button. While the light is green, you dip the UV lamp into the water until the water sensing pins are completely covered. The lamp will turn on automatically. Stir the water around until the lamp turns off again. That is it. Dry it off, replace the cover and store until next time. It couldn’t be easier.

The lamp is light weight and about the size of a medium flashlight. It runs on 4AA batteries, preferable lithium or NiMH and will sterilize up to 200 1/2 liter, or 100 liters and the the Emergency unit itself will sterilize up 3000 liters.

SteriPEN offers at least 6 different models of handheld water purifiers. There is the Classic SteriPEN, to a hand-cranking versions hat doesn’t require batteries and the latest that recharges using a USB cable that can be easily plugged into your computer, wall outlet, or even a solar panel. The prices range from about $50 to $150.

SteriPENs are being used around the world even for non emergency times, by travelers, the climbers of Mt Everest, householders, weekend hikers, and Navy seals, and has even been recognized in 2011 by TIME Magazine as one of the Top 100 Gadgets of our time. They are proven safe and have been well tested with public documents to show the product meeting or exceeding the EPA standards.

SteriPEN believes in social responsibility. 100% of every dollar they donate goes directly to funds water projects in Ethiopia or to provide safe water infrastructure. With women and kids having to walk hours in search of water, a well nearby can restore valuable time to their day. Dirty water can cause diarrhea, even death, most often in kids. A clean water well can change that. And during this holiday season, SteriPEN is donating a $1 of each purchase directly from their site, buysteripen.com will be matched and donated to a specified cause. 5% of all proceeds from sales bought directly from their site will be donated to ‘s Ethiopia well drilling initiative to provide safe drinking water to the people of Tigray, Ethiopia AND SteriPEN will also match any personal donations to this cause up to $500.

Whether you are prepping for massive devastation, want a small protection plan for your family, or just need something for when you go hiking, SteriPEN has you covered.

  4. My daughter caught “bever fever” (not to be confused with Beiber fever) a few years back. She was terribly ill for weeks. Getting her diagnosed was a mess. They still are not sure if she caught it from our well water or on a camping trip – nonetheless, we are much more careful about what water we drink.
